Hello all,
i really need to get this off my mind...
I loved playing on ur server some weeks ago, was allways fun and great games. :D
But since u have put the redeemers and also now spawn protection on ur server its less fun and i realized less ppl playing... even when i play till 2am (gmt) i can hardly find some of ur funny guys online.
That makes me feel i am not alone with my thoughts about the changes and i thought i would let u know and give other the chance to add their opinions.
I know u did the changes to give also noobs and not so good players the chance to improve their score, but i must say, its not working out. Plz dont get me wrong, i still enjoy the fun when some of u r there. Its just the feeling that u loose gamers on ur server. :confused:
But thats just my 2 cents, and i still hope one day u activate the former settings and the server will be as full as before.
Would love to hear other opinions now... :o

I hate deemers too, but, they are unfortunately the best equalizer for maps with secrets. As for the spawn protection, it seems to be the best equalizer for those who camp the spawn points. Perhaps that's why the changes were made? I'm not around alot, so, I don't know for sure. I'm around so infrequently, I didn't even notice the spawn protect :o

During the Most common week used for Spring Break here in the states, the server was slammed. It would seem that traffic has slowed a bit everywhere after Spring Break. I have a couple of servers that I watch because they are almost always full and even they have been kind of empty. The busiest week we had to date happened after the changes.
I agree with you on the spawn-protection. We tried it for a few days and it failed miserably. The gameplay seemed to slow down because of it. It's been removed.
The deemers, even though they are in-game, really don't get used. They only fly once or twice a map. The deemers were put in because of the maps loaded with secrets and the frustration people feel dealing with those players that insist on abusing the secrets. The same 8 maps keep getting voted in several times throughout the day. We have several small groups of regulars that come in, vote, and play these 8 maps then leave. With the same result. These people absolutely dominate these maps because of their secrets. Usually by the time these 8 maps are finished, the server population has gone from 15+ down to a handful. People get frustrated and leave. Jailbreak and CTF were removed for the same reason. Nothing empties a full server like an un-FUN game.
I will continue to watch how things are going in the community. If the other servers begin to pick back up and ours doesn't, then I will return the config back to what it was. Have a good one.

hey kitty. first than everything. I enjoy to have a great games with you, i barely c catch you on FUN Servers, but today that i play with you and THAS on your server i have to say u were a very good players. And great server too.
And well, i just entered because i was curious about your post actually. And well, i just can say, that i understand you, but im complety agree with Draco, and well, like everything.. is just imposible to have the 100% agree with changes, Someones loves now the deemers, someones not, Anyway, when i was playing, is only a few persons who use the redemers, and in my case if u catch one, i just drop away in any direction and continue playing. And about the spawn protection.... lol. i discover what was that, yesterday and now i catch it. but Draco has a point here, i remember when i shot and i didnt c the player i shoot on the head be killed. And like Draco said, the game was slowly. but now i understand why people get mad, can be frustrating so i learn very well my lesson lol. I Thinks this facts isnt going to desapear, like i say there will be some guys who like it and other that wont, but i support 100% Dracos job here on server, because he listen and read every post and every question or sugestion and he made the changes guiding by the response of the people who enter on FUN servers.
So my friend KillerKitty, im with you and Im proud of the Job here of Draco, i hope to c you on the server for have a good games, and any change that the server has, be great for all of us.
At the end, the most important here is to have fun with every player who was on servers, and adapt to the changes, that i think, everyone was made based on the likes of people.

I thought that a 1 or 2 second spawn protection might have been a good idea to help discourage spawn point camping on the server, not that I feel i am a noob and need it. I find that Spawn Point Camping maybe be a great strategy to winning a map but is an unskillful route to a victory. I think it may have promoted a more skillful and enjoyable style of game play for some. Getting spawn killed or not it's still fun to me.
Another thing I thought about also would be to put bots enter for a minimum of 3 or 4 players. When the server is only partially full it may force players to play each other for a win as opposed to killing bots. I try not to kill too many bots but am finding myself using them to play catch up if I am behind( not so skillful).
Any changes made or not made are all good, I will always play and have fun on the servers and appreciate the hard work Draco puts into them.

Why not take out the secret spots? Most maps have versions without secrets...Some people can only play well using the secret spots As far as the bots, some of them have pretty decent skills at times (Manicles) so I have no problem using bots to add to my score. Personally, I support some form of spawn protection because it seems that many people do in fact use spawn points, especially when u can get to more than one spawn location from a secret spot...

In 2 of the 3 sniping ladders I play in have Deemers in play. Deemers do suck, if they are used against you but they are sweet if you get to use them. As for the same 8 maps that are played, they get old especially if they have secrets/punkies in them (believe me I have my favorite maps but barely play them).
As Drac said, its all about making it an equal playing field.

i like having the deemers in game. Another element to avoid and its fun to watch others bail out of their spots when it comes by.

Did i mention I liked the idea of a 2-3 second spawn protect as well? It gives you a chance to have the game load at least before your head is taken off. It's quite frustrating to be dead before you can see that you've spawned.

That little problem was fixed over the weekend.You no longer die 3 times waiting to spawn in. It was a mutator that wasn't very windows compatible for some strange reason. Now, you spawn in and can move immediately.

Our AntiShochHo400 anti-cheat protection. Unfortunately, it means we are kind of unprotected at the moment as far as UScript detection. I have found an oldschool anti-cheat that I have already begun testing called STFU or Security Tools for UnrealTournament. It seems like it is the father of NBSP and uses a different form of catching UScript cheats that modern day anti-cheats have long stopped using. I'm gambling on the idea that the cheat writers stopped coding to defeat this form of detection when the UT patch that supported MD5 came out in 2002 and are easily found by this. It works by taking an inventory of all the packages and actors and how they are linked in their functions working on the server and then cross-checks them with the client to see if anything 'extra' is running. I tested it last night using the most common cheats like the so-called 'undetectable' UXBBot, Elfbot, FunBot, and ToBot. Not only did it catch me in a split-second but completely shut my game down. The only thing it lacks is that it just says the client is executing an illegal script but dooesn't log what actor is running. Another issue is that, with out some tweaking, it doesn't work on Linux or MACos clients. I will begin recoding portions of it so that it will do what we need it to do. The practice server has it running on it right now if you all would like to test it for me. Please PM if you can't get on it.

Well, as u might know from our server, the spawn protection is also used there and i think its making the game more fair especially in small and 1 on 1 maps.
But i still think deemers suck, cause there is no skill needed to shoot them, and therefore ppl might not feel they need to improve then and learn the maps.
I had much fun playing the JB and CFT maps on ur server, thats why we r going to put such things on ours now... ;)
Miss them too... :(
Oh, and i know how much work it is to build up a server, and i really appreciate the work the yguys did here.
Hope no one has taken offence, was just wondering if i was alone with my thoughts. Thx all for the input.
