View Full Version : Hello from z00t
Discovered [FUN] through Waylin, who has been my best friend for a number of years, and whose opinions on matters extending far beyond UT weigh heavily on life's little (and large) decisions. First appearance on your full-auto sniper server was as "Ground_Beef" -- I seem to favor z00t/Ground_Beef equally, but I'll keep it consistently "z00t" from here on out. At least my choice of skin remains consistent.
Greetz to T-Bone who took me to school a few nights ago. Only problem was how quickly the lesson was administered: no opportunity to learn. That's OK. Someone has to be the target :-). Future instructors may wish to bear in mind I only have a 144 kbit/s connection most of the time, and I'm interested in learning tactics to help mitigate that disadvantage.
Been playing UT on and off since it first hit the shelves. It was the first, and remains the only, FPS that has consistently held my attention and interest. It's way past time to really learn how to play this game, and Waylin says you guys are patient teachers. Thanks in advance...

Hey there, zOOt, and welcome to the forums. First off, I just wanted to say that GroundBeef in a war-cow skin had me laughing out loud. It reminded of a joke the wife once told me: What do you call a cow with no legs? hysthysthystSecond, thank you so much for the donation. It is very appreciated.
T-Bone is a monster of a player and hands me my ass on a regular basis. When he enters the server I know my streak is gone. And he does it with a 200 ping. Amazing!
The cool thing about this 9 year old game is it was designed to run smooth as silk on a 56k modem so your 144k connection should do just fine. The bandwidth at any one time is probably only 20kbps under the heaviest load. To me, UT99 is, and always will be, the greatest FPS. I love it.
If you ever wanna know something about the game, just ask. I'm decent with the transing and I'll be more than happy to show you the tricks that I know. After you know the tricks, it's all about getting your timing down and practicing for a bit.
Have a good one and see you on the servers.

Welcome to z00t!
blues
By way of intro to the rest of the group, ya he's my best friend, but he's also the best of guys categorically. I don't get to sit around and chill with him enough since I ended up working in the wrong town. :(
I think you'll find him a fountain of knowledge, as he's been hacking on Linux since it all fit on a floppy, and UNIX since before that. I think he runs his own personal technology museum. :)
I'll also echo z00t's desire to bone up on my ability to contribute to a fun and competitive game. Criticism and pointers cheerfully accepted.
What if I change my nick to d1ng0?

You can run under any name you like. Just let D_D or myself know if you would like it changed here on the boards. Have a good one.

Heh, thanks for letting me know how to change it.
For those that might not recognize it, I was actually joking:
