I have started trying to play UT on my laptop because I have having video problems on my desktop that I can't get resolved. So here is what is happening, I have Vista on the laptop, and I can get in and play UT but I can zoom in without a black blox appearing. How can this be fixed? This doesn't happen anywhere else I play but here. And I really like playing here.

Open your unrealtournament.ini with notepad. Go to Edit>Find and do a search for HighDetailActors. Change all instances of HighDetailActors=False to HighDetailActors=True. This will get you all fixed up. Have a good one.

Hey K.L. Had the same problem when we went from D3D to D3D9r10...We took all the instances of highdetailactors and changed them to true but still had the dang lil black box on zoom...gcypher gave us this link for a reinstall and it worked...you have to follow all the steps to the t though...for disks one and two...the tricky part is when you get to the S3TC Compressed Textures from CD2...Here is the site...good luck...hope Draco's cure works for your system...it will be much easier...

If you want to read that thread that we were discussing it on...its in the general discussion forum on page 3 called "could use some help"

Thanks, that worked for me. But now the sound is messed up. I think that I can fix that with an updated driver. I did find one for my system. I just haven't installed it yet.

Thanks for all your help!!!

Can I ask, is the sound is messed up for only UT or for the whole system?

If it's just UT, open up UT.ini again and do a find for UseDirectSound=. Change that to the opposite of whatever it is. Have a good one.

Yea, I use to have that with the sound once in a while too, I changed that and problem was solved then.
