I've been reading alot about it lately and thinking about testing the RC, when it comes out. I'd like to upgrade myself from a Vista-fool to a 7-fool ;)
Anyone has any experiences yet?
Most critical question, obviosly: does UT run in it?!

ive tried the 7 leaked beta, its reallllly good!! i tryed a vista torrent (yes, im too cheap to buy it, but i got rid of it as soon as i tested it) 7 is sooooo much faster, plus its realllly customizable and you can turn off stuff you dont want on, so its not too slow... i would buy 7 when it comes out... or if u got uTorrent you can get the leaked beta (but dont just cheat microsoft and keep it, use it till the real 7 comes out

The Beta for Windows 7 wasn't leaked. Microsoft released the Beta to Live users to get feedback. The full version will have more to it.
I will say please be very careful with what you DL from any torrent for any OS. People tend to put bad things into those iso files that you can't always see.

One of my work colleagues got RC2 (might be wrong) yesterday, he installed it in 20 minutes on a virtual machine, and it flies - faster than XP.
This is surprising - have Microsoft actually listened to what people have been saying for years. Speed, no bullshit GUI etc?
Of course I expect a lot of stuff to not be compatible with it, and I expect a lot of new stuff to only be compatible with it (e.g. Halo2 and Vista - though there is the DirectX 10 hack for XP).

It has a virtual XP mode (has to be downloaded seperatly if I'm correct) which can run program's/drivers as if it's in XP. Only thing is that you're processor has to support Virtual nonsence...

I have no understanding of the Mac, but these are the minimal requirements:
A PC with these system requirements:
1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 GB RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available disk space (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
If all are positive: download the .iso from microsoft.com and install it? I that's not the mac way, use the force: or ask someone who has understanding of the Mac-way...

Silly rabbit Trix are for Kids! G4,G3 And G5 processor varients are all consided ppc and i think at the time far superior to the intel and amd listings. There are a few people out there still porting ubuntu to the ppc but you'll have to dig a bit.
Try Ubuntu 7 or 8 for ppc if you want a challenge (based on your system specs). Need intel for the good stuff. Start here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCDownloads

Careful, last server edition i used was all command line, so if that doesnt scare you then go for it. system resources are certainly lower that route. if you know the server programs you use you can install them on the desktop edition and have gui's to work with.

Windows 7 RC gets its first bug, and it's a doozy
The first documented bug in the Windows 7 Release Candidate (build 7100) is a doozy.
Yesterday, Microsoft published Knowledge Base article 970789, which provides details of a problem that affects the 32-bit (x86) English-language version of Windows 7 build 7100. The problem, in short, is that the installer incorrectly sets access control lists (ACLs) on the root of the system drive.

Try opening the disk, not running it, and see if the file name contains a 4 digit number, like 7100...
Or if you can do a clean install on a spare disk: go for it! I the right lower corner of the screen you'll see the version, once you got it fully installed and are looking at the desktop :)

You would want to watch out if you're unsure of the source mate. There's already news that hacked versions of 7 are out and being used to create botnets.
If you want to have a go at it, download it from the Microsoft site. It's free and legal and you're sure there's no spyware or whatever in it.

I felt motivated today at work and installed Win7 on my bootcamp partion of my MacBookPro today. Install went will and except for my HD performance (5400rpm) my ratings are all in the mid 6s. the very first thing i installed was CODUO (UT99 disks are at home) And the optimal settings are the highest. looks pretty flawless, I like my at work ping of 23!!!!!! runs pretty smooth and looks better than my p4 gaming computer (not a hard thing to do) I plan to fiddle with UT99 tonight. I believe Brum posted some trouble shooting techniques for ut99 on Vista which i believe will be applicable for Windows 7 as well. primarily due to my Intel Core 2 2.4ghz proc, 4 gigs or ram and 512 invidia. i'll let you all know how it goes.

Make sure you set the compatibilty mode to XP, so the program runs as if under XP. Also, if you have a dual/quadcore cpu, make sure to set UT to run on just one of the cores, it doesn't like multiple cores very much...
I haven't had time to mess about with UT in 7, maybe tonight, but this weekend for sure!

Yup, I just installed Windows 7 RC, it really lot better workin with hardwares and softwares than Vista!
I have the Windows 7 RTM installed on my laptop, and I love it. Anyone who's downloading it, make sure after you've entered the key and started up Windows that you check in the properties of My Computer that on the bottom it says it's activated. They've nuked several serials already, so if it says it's not activated and you still need to do so, then you need to find a Windows 7 Patch to take care of it.
I'm a whore for customization when it comes to my computer, so Windows 7 adds a lot of that for me. You can definitely take advantage of sound options, as well as the themes. If you don't like it changing your wallpaper on its own, you can easily turn it off.
I think one of my favorite things is the fact that you can pin a program to the taskbar, sort of like quick launch, but when you run it, it doesn't show a separate button, it's all right there. It definitely keeps it from being really cluttered.
Also, this is outside Windows 7, but thought I'd mention it. If anyone here uses like ICQ, MSN, Yahoo!, XFire, AIM all at the same time, and you don't like several messengers, then definitely get Pidgin, and just download the GFire plugin so you can sign onto XFire on it. It's an extra that Trillian doesn't give you the option of. Just make sure when you enter your username and pw info, that you don't capitalize any of it, unless your password has capitalized letters.
Alright, I've spewed out enough words. =-]

My product key got activated after WIndows7 was installed, plus installed the updates...
And not forget download Anti-Virus!
I have McAfee Internet Security, but if you want a good free one, Avast's Free Edition works quite well.
