Servers, What Should Be Done...

here is our current situation.. there have been comments about adding a halo slayer server and comments about custom addition so we dont have to play the same 8 map rotation everynight.. there are a few problems no matter how we look at it.. as it stands draco and i pay for the servers as it is.. to be able to run more than one halo server we would have to switch our current box to a windows based setup, not a big deal($10 more than we are currently paying atm for the halo and ut servers).. but, if we were to do that the ut 2k4 server will more than likely have to go and possibly one of our ut servers as aswell.. so the biggest question is, is if we make the move to the windows based box, which of the ut servers are people willing to lose??

there are good and bad on both sides.. if the windows server runs as nice as our current box, we shouldnt see the lag that we see with the gameservers line we have for halo atm.. but on the other hand, we all know how well microsoft stuff systems can run too.. so even though we might have a great ping now, it could just run quite unstable.. we just never know till we try it.. our current ut box now run about 99% flawless for the most part.. if we could get the same results from the windows box, it could be a really great thing for both games.. besides, we could bounce the players limits up to max for halo for alot of late night action..

anyway enough babble from me for the moment.. we are taking anyones thoughts, concerns and ideas on the present state.. feel free to drop into TS and voice ur opinions, also it makes for a better understanding of things.. this message is meant for all visitors of the board, not just the members.. thanks from dropping in and have a great day...

I really wish I were in a position to help with the servers financially, but personal situation precludes that right now for me; I have a negative income situation I am trying to dig out of.

As far as what to do with the servers, I would say that it would be unfair to the FUN clan to lose a UT server to add a slayer server.

There are a TON of slayer servers, and while we could add one, I would say it would be best to not do so at the expense of FUN.

If we WERE to add a HALO server that was non-race, I would vote for it to be Oddball/KotH, and add an occasional slayer map if we must have slayer. With CE and now H3 out, I foresee Halo having a diminishing number of players. I really think there aren't enough good KotH and Oddball servers. Most of the time, if you;re looking for one of those games (and I personally really like those over just straight slayer) you get in, and then the next map is slayer anyway.

But to reiterate, I think it best not to borrow from FUN to expand UT into slayer.

Hopefully, I'll be in a better position in 08, and maybe I can help get a KotH/Oddball server going.

You filled me in on your situation and I completely understand why you are unable to help financially. D_D and I started this clan knowing that we would shoulder the financial responsibility for a while and we really don't have an issue doing it all. Another huge help is the space for our web-site provided to us by Smokey. We don't want to be one of those clans that will charge dues so all we ask is a donation every once in a while from anyone who can help by making a donation.

This is not particularly true. In the UT series, everyone thought 99 would die when UT2k3 came out. It didn't. Everyone thought it would die when UT2k4 came it. It didn't then, either. The fact is is that UT99 is still the most popular. There are still 2000 servers on-line for it. Halo3 may be out but the system requirements alone will insure that not even a quarter of Halo players will switch to it. It's just like UT3 due out next month. Not many are going to switch to it because you literally have to have a super-computer just to play it.

As for the new box, I'm down for just about anything. The way I look it is we can have quite a bit more for only $10 more a month(If the windows-based box runs as smooth). It will be one of those 'try-it-to-see-if-it-works' kind of things. Have a good one.

At the current moment just about everyone of you know my current status of employment and finances so once things settle for me a donation will be in order. But to the point, I enjoy playing on all of the servers provided by the FUN clan. Currently, I am lucky to still play online, so what ever is decided "Game On".

ok people to start out.. this is not a dontation thread at all, so dont think it is.. draco and i have them covered and smokey has our back on the forum.. this was just to get views on what people thought about the direction the servers could go.. i have played UT99 for awhile now, but i now find myself using my spare time to play halo(guns and wharthogs what could be better)..

draco and i have done some talking about it, and he thinks possibly without any testing atm.. that if we upgraded to the box to a windows to be able to run our own halo servers.. that more than like we could run the 2 halo, and the 3 UT99 servers and then our TS also.. the main question was to figure out how and what we would split the servers into if we did the move.. the UT99 are pretty well set, but if we had to remove one which would it be?? likewise for the 2 halo servers which would you prefer?? i was hoping for a normal race and the 2nd being CE race for added tracks.. i mean the tracks are about endless in CE.. but then there is the option for the slayer/oddball/koth/ctf or whatever the pleasure..

so please dont think that this is a donation thread because its not.. we are just happy that people enjoy the servers so much.. hell our race server seems to stay pretty full most of the night now if there is atleast 1 member in there.. people go where the fun is.. yes it sucks to admin, but we are gaining a better set of racers that way.. so please enjoy the servers and have a great day...

Well i love halo and UT99 but if we had to get rid of a UT server I would say the bolt-action but if possible i would prefer to keep both. now for the second halo server i would prefer a CE race server.

pretty sure there mutators shouldnt have any probs working together.. it would include adding another section into the fancy smancy map vote we have.. it would be the great multi server...

i dont forsee us needing to get rid of either of the ut99 servers at all.. as bebedoll asked, i am pretty sure we would be able to put them into one server if needed..


now for the second halo server i would prefer a CE race server.

now that is something i like to hear.. do you have any idea if alot of people actually play the CE edition of halo?? i mean u can get so many more maps for it.. and the rotation is about endless.. maybe its time to start asking once and awhile on the server if anyone else actually plays it and if they would visit if we did start one...
