Ok, I was quick to post this earlier without explaining what it is, I was at lunch and the CEO was in again.
The link above is a program known as VisualRoute Lite, it is a free version of a much larger program known as VisualRoute. The overall concept of this program is to provide a trace route to whatever server IP or URL you are trying to connect to. The feedback the program provides is a simple visual feedback, showing ping to hop with packet loss. The parent program to this will show where in the world that hop is on a map, but if you are good enough you can just do it the old fashion way and do a reverse IP to find where it is.
Now there are other ways to do a trace route. Some programs like HLSW offers a built in trace route feature, which I have shown in another location on the forums.
You can do a trace route via the command prompt in Windows. To do this:
1) Go to Run
2) Enter cmd
3) Click 'OK'
4) Enter in tracert (Server IP)
Example: tracert 66.128.51.235 <------Camping Server tehehehe!
5) Press Enter
6) Sit back and watch the hops fly by.
Enjoy!
