Ok everyone,

We have all used the word lag and blame the server, packet loss, crappy computer, etc.

Sometimes its something that you can't do anything about. This is my latest trace route to one of the [FUN] servers. I hit some heavy traffic going to the server.

Pretty colours indeed. What you are looking at is how many "hops" it takes to get to that server. At each "hop" showing what my ping. Where the ping is high, it shows the traffic that is happening in that area.

Arrr, a pirate. He's after my bootie!

Its neither. High traffic going thru the cities to get to the server can cause lag on you system or what seems like lag, where your PC hasn't had a chance to talk to the server.

The program I use is actually very basic, its called HLSW and its free. Been using it for the last 3 years. It allows you to watch all your favorite servers plus you can connect to them with a press of a button without having to load UT.

Well, it doesn't do the connection stuff for me, did you set anything or did it just work, as it did for Philango?

My ISP is now my bitch.

OK, now to time to explain this.

For the last 2 months I have been experiencing some connection issues with some servers, mostly ours, 2 in New York, and 1 in Virginia. Not thinking anything about it I thought it was just high traffic for the particular night and went on with life.

Now this past few weeks this has been getting worse. So the other night while on TS with everyone, I did some Trace Routes using HLSW and the DOS command prompt, saw some very strange results, and took some screenies of these so I had something to refer too . This lead me to ask Pyro for some quick fixes on opening up my connection to see if that would help (BTW P, thanks). It didn't do squat.

So, I got home from work today, payed my bills, and called my ISP. This is where I note that I have a high speed connection. I explained to them what I was seeing, what I have done, etc. They then had me do some speed tests, blah blah blah. At this point in time, I told them that I have done a trace route and have been seeing some issues in their network, let alone outside their network. Not believing me, they had me run through some more hoops. At the point where they saw what my speed results where and what they should be. I then got TRANSFERRED from TECH SUPPORT to ENGINEERING (hyst).

The dude from engineering went through my file and we had a 10 minute conversation that consisted of him giving me his email to send him my trace route results and explaining them to him. Granted he did say that he can't do anything about the stuff outside the network, which is ok but I asked what about the within your network. This guy was very quick to respond with, we will get right on this and will have an answer for you right away. Meaning that they screwed up the network and will be fixing it, I plan on getting my money back for only having 1/4 of my net speed available.

Therefore, I made my ISP my bitch!devils

Sounds like the customer is explain the company what's wrong, not good, never good....

If they still don't fix things, there's always the 'kids-window' option Motor, just keep that in the back of your head! hyst

The kids are flying as we speak, just waiting on the call to see if they fixed the problem.
