I've got a new pc and was wondering if I needed to tweak anything before installing UT'99 or after installing it and before running it?
Here's the deal:
Windows Vista Ultimate (it came free ;))
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - 2,4GHz - 1066MHz FSB - 2 x 4MB L2
3GB DDR2 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT Superclocked 512MB DDR3
Thanks in advance!

No Phil, if I'd also tell you that I had a 22" screen and almost a TB of disk space divided over several discs, that'd be showing off...
Fortunally I didn't do that, did I now?

Thanks for the tip Sparky! I've already set the UT'99 process to run on just 1 CPU, found on some forum that other people were experiences trouble with the dual core and this is a way around it, so far so good. If anyone has an idea on which core to run it for optimal performance (0, 1, 2 or 3), that'd be appreciated. It's now running stable on Core 0.
I do however got some other issue now: my favorites won't ping properly, there's just one or two coming up, while the others are up and running aswell they show as '9999'. Phil adviced me to use the program HLSW, which I do now, but when I hit connect in that program I get an error that it can't locate the UnrealTournament.exe file. I tried several different ways of tellng the program the path to the file, but it just won't get it.
If anyone has any suggestions about the ping's or the HLSW issue, please let me know!

you might have to change whatever virus software your running. My old virsu software didnt work with my quad.avast free version works well and lets you ping all servers.

I hadn't thought about that, I run the McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, as a companies demand for being allowed to set-up an RC desktop connection. I'll have a look into the properties. Thanks!

Right, the first serious issue has occured:
Last night I was playing with a few of my old |DSF| mates on the [EST] server and everytime the map ended and a new one would start the game would freeze and I had to kill the process and fire the game up again. When I then connect to the server all seemed fine. The freeze started, or so it seemed to me, whenever UTDC21 started it's checks but only when I stayed on the server, not when I on first instance... Anyone has any idea's or suggestions?

i had a problem like this with my UTDC on the fun server once.
All i did was remove the files and get them from a more reliable source.
sometimes alot of UTDC's are cracked so the serverside program picks up they have it and it then does a scan and does nothing and this is where a freeze came from. i got my UTDC from This site so unless you got yours from a different site?

Thanks for that tip, I'll try that one.
[EST] server made me download and install the files, so it could be the problem.
